How Do We Price Items?

Ever wonder how we decide what goes on the price tag?

Pricing consignment items is part experience, part research and part knowing our customers.

When you bring in a bin, we review and price each item individually. We take the title sheet with the bin so we know who the items belong to, then we determine the appropriate price for each piece.

We use several things to help us make that decision:

  • Our internal pricing guide, based on our actual sales data

  • Brand and original retail price

  • Condition

  • Current style and trends

  • Season

  • Size and demand

  • What similar items are selling for

  • Research on resale sites such as Poshmark and Depop

We also look at the current resale market, including what similar items have actually sold for, rather than simply looking at asking prices.

Our goal is to find the right price for the item and the market while giving our consignors the best possible opportunity to earn money.

And because The Velvet Studio is a curated consignment boutique, not a thrift store, our pricing reflects the quality and condition of the items we select and the elevated shopping experience we strive to provide.

Every item gets a little research, a little experience and an individual price tag.
